Program Overview

The Certified Cyber Analyst/Operator (CCAO) program is an intense, hands-on training program designed to prepare individuals for careers in cybersecurity. It is intended for individuals with limited technology or cybersecurity experience, but who have the aptitude and the passion to succeed in the field.

The program combines expert instruction from industry practitioners, significant hands-on lab-based exercises, competency-based assessments and valuable industry certifications to provide candidates with the skills, knowledge and credentials necessary to begin a career in cybersecurity.

Throughout the program, participants will be taught the technology, the tools and the tradecraft required to effectively conduct red team cybersecurity activities. To successfully complete the program students will be required to demonstrate their ability to discover and exploit vulnerabilities in networked information systems without disclosing their presence, tactics or techniques.

Faculty Profile – Homer Minnick

Homer Minnick has contributed to our nation’s cyber defense, functioning as part of the Department of Defense (DoD) from 2006 until 2011. Minnick served in the United States Army as a Computer Network Operations (CNO) Operator and as a Technical Advisor in the development of the Army’s new Cryptologic Network Warfare Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and the Joint Cyber Analysis Course (JCAC).

In December 2011, Minnick retired from the Army after 20 years of service and began his tenure with UMBC Training Centers as the Director, Cybersecurity Academy. In this role, he directs specialized workforce training programs focused on developing new Cybersecurity professionals.
